Our History
Gaines United Methodist Church
The organization of Gaines took place in 1873 at the corner of Main and Walburg streets, known now as Madison and Roanoke streets in Madisonville. The meetings were held on the second floor of the Tinners Shop.

In 1884, Mr. and Mrs Charles Langdon donates a lot on Center Street, now known as Desmond Street, for the site of new church. A one room white frame structure was donated by another family. This structure was moved, intact from Red Bank Road to Desmond STreet, approximately five miles. This served as the edifice for the Gaines congregation for sixty-eight years.
Gaines was named after Henry Gaines, one of the churches oldest and most faithful member.
In 1954, Gaines moved into a new edifice at 5101 Chapman street. In November, 1980, the congregation moved into our present edifice at 5707 Madison Road.
